Before the rain came this afternoon, we spent the morning outside. It was gray, still and quiet. During the summer months, I love starting my mornings by drinking my coffee on our front porch. I started this ritual again this morning, but instead of sitting in the warm morning sun looking out at my perennials, I sat bundled in my winter coat, boots and hat. My dogs joined me, rolling around in the remaining snow. Eventually the boys trickled out of the house with tubs of army men to play in the freshly uncovered sandbox. They dug trenches, created rivers and set up historical battle scenes. While I missed the warmth, scents and sounds of summer, it was still a peaceful way to begin the morning, with the exception of the deadly epic battles of world domination taking place in the sandbox…..
