The Season of Mud…

I have a love/hate relationship with my driveway. We are tucked back in the woods, about a 1/4 of a mile from the road. In the summer and fall our driveway is a shaded sanctuary. But winter and spring, it’s just a lot of work. We live where winters are winters. They start in November and we can get snow into May. When we first bought our house, all we had to clear our driveway was a 24″ snowblower. It would take most of a day to dig our way out. Eventually we were able to get a tractor, but when we really get dumped on with snow, it still takes most of a day to clear it. With spring comes mud. We are in the middle of mud season right now. Today the boys were out riding bikes up and down the driveway, splashing through puddles. They came in from outside with mud splashed rosy cheeks and mud all over their clothes. But they were smiling. Not sure if today is a love it or hate it day….

  1. That’s a lot of mud! And your post made me think about one of my favorite bossa nova songs, Aguas de Marco — the waters of March, all about the rainy season in Brazil. There’s a line in it: “It’s the mud. It’s the mud.” Something tells me, you can relate!
